Item number two ticked off the #bucketlistsummer2016 list: visit a National Trust property. Usually, I’d mean a house or castle or somesuch, but as we were in Devon for a wedding, we had the chance to visit my favourite National Trust places of all…a beautiful beach.
The cure for anything is apparently some form of salt water… and that sea air works on post-wedding hangovers a treat.
Despite the moody, mizzly morning, the weather actually came out pretty nice in the afternoon – nice enough for this fool to ‘catch the sun’. That optimistic term we Brits use to mean ‘my, don’t you look tomatoey tonight?’.
But my red forehead aside, look at that water! Every five seconds, we uttered something along the lines of ‘wish we had some swimsuits with us’. Though, that said, the hardy-looking bros throwing around a rugby ball were squealing and tip-toeing out of the water when the waves got them, so maybe it was for the best.
Next time: canoeing/paddleboarding all the way.
We wandered along the cliffs towards mist until our stomachs pushed us back towards the car, and Devon’s insanely tiny roads. We’d forgotten to bring the bag full of snacks from the B&B, which meant no getting to lay on the beach, finishing my book, because hunger pangs…
Next time, I’ll have all the snacks with me…
